During January, I read a total of 15 books.
So this past month to get into reading because I hadn't read much at the end of 2018, I started off finishing a graphic novel that I had started last year, and that is Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag, and I don't know yet if I will be continuing with this series, but it was a decently good read. I also picked up another graphic novel to also help get me into reading, since Witch Boy didn't exactly do the trick for me - and I ended up being disappointed with the second graphic novel, Mer. Then I finally found two graphic novel series that I absolutely loved, Paper Girls and Amulet. I read the first two volumes in the Paper Girls series, and the first two volumes in the Amulet series. Then I read I Kill Giants, and I thought it was ok. The last graphic novel that I read this month was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I enjoyed it much more than I did the book which I read a few years ago.
After not being really satisfied by the first two graphic novels that I finished this year, I decided to pick up a shorter story hoping it would help with my reading slump (of YA books). I randomly picked up Patrick Ness's story, And the Ocean Was Our Sky, and although it wasn't my favorite book, it was definitely better than the other novels I had read this year so far.Then I also read two short companion stories. One was The Island by Alison Croggan, a short story in the Books of Pellinor series, and the other was Dead House: Naida Tapes, a short novella following the incidents of Dead House. I am really not a huge fan of the cover for this novella. The last shorter novel that I completed in the month of January was Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire, the third book in the Wayward Children series. There will soon be a review for it - so if you are interested, keep your eyes peeled for that.
Next, I finally pushed myself to finish listening to the audiobook of Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. This was a really disappointing read because I was really looking forward to this book, and it feel short in so many ways for me. If you want to know more about why this book was such a disappointing read for me, check out my review here. I also listened to one short audiobooks called Girl in the Locked Room. The last audiobook that I listened to this month was Girl at the Grave, which I really enjoyed, and was favorite book this month.
So for the month of February, which I know is the shortest month, I have a handful of books that I am planning on reading/finishing. Since February is the month of love, I would like to focus on reading some contemporaries, starting with two of Kasie West's books that I haven't yet read: Listen to Your Heart and Love, Life, and the List. Along with that, if I am able to get it during February, I would like to read the anthology, Snow in Love, where Kasie West is one of the four authors, along with Aimee Friedman, Melissa de la Cruz, and Nic Stone.
I also want to read one of Morgan Matson's books this month, and I am only aiming to read one because I haven't had the best luck with some of her books. I have only finished Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, which I only gave three stars to and then I DNFed Second Chance Summer. I will either be reading Save the Date or Unexpected Everything.
Then I would like to finish these three books if I find the time: Eliza and Her Monsters (which is also a contemporary), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and Little Women. I am also going to try to also read Skyward since I failed to complete that last month, which means I will be trying to finish two big books this month in my YA category.
